N.E.W. is considered low toxicity in the aquatic ecosystem. N.E.W. contains no ingredients such as phosphates that contribute to BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) or COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) at wastewater treatment facilities, nor does it cause subsurface contamination or water pollution. NEW does not contain any other chemical ingredients often found in general purpose detergents and cleaning agents on the market and it is low flammability.
No, since N.E.W. is made from pure water and does not contain surfactants, a common ingredient in soaps and detergents. Water with a high level of alkalinity is also neutralized quickly upon contact with dirt and oil as compared to sludge-causing detergents which harm the environment.
